Soap Bibliography: A journey in progress

Welcome to the Soap Bibliography! This is the one stop spot for in depth curated bar soap reviews. I aim to update this in real time with each new bar I try. You may wonder if I remember every bar I have tried...sadly I do not. So, these first reviews will get a bit fuzzy the farther away they are, but here we go.

Disclaimer: I am sadly not sponsored by any bar soap companies, so the reviews here are only my own. That said, if someone wanted to sponsor me....that would be cool.

  • Harry’s: Stone. I know what you are thinking, not exactly artisanal. However, this has been the best lather and longest lasting soap I have used. Scent is great, manly and fresh with a zest that I love, and most impressively the scent lasts through to the end of the bar, a rarity in bar soap world. It is a very good bar for the price.

  • PachaLove Whole Foods, sure they have produce but they also have a dope section of soaps and assorted products that are less cool than soap. Walk through any Whole Foods and it is lined with Pacha Soaps...of which I have tried about 10. Favorites are:
      • Clarifying Charcoal: Smell was fantastic! I was a bit skeptical on the color but honestly it was one of my favorite bars. A qualm as with all other soaps of this brand is that the smell does not permeate through the whole bar, it fades about 70% through.
      • Spearmint Lemongrass: I somewhat forget if this was the right one as this was a while ago, but a great bar nonetheless. Bright and vibrant, similar to the charcoal it does not carry the scent through to the end of the bar. Good lather, leaves the skin feeling refreshed.

  • Ursa Major: Mint and Eucalyptus
I loved this bar, it had excellent lather and has this graininess that was very exfoliating. Smelled amazing and the scent permeated through the whole bar. I wish they made other scents to explore the variety but I respect that they are committed to making one quality bar. At $14/bar I think it is worth it, and I would happily repeat.

  • Bali Soap Co Masculine set. This was my first foray into bar soap. Before this multi pack I was a Dove Men + Care man. Now, nothing against the Dove soap, honestly it is pretty great. I really appreciated the care in the men+care. The green one was my favorite, buying in 12 packs like the rest of the world. HOWEVER, there comes a time when that gets boring, and so the journey began. As with all things, my bar soap journey has been a learning experience, and this pack was overall okay. Would probably not repeat, but was a good price and began my lifelong foray into the bar soap world.
    • Lemon and Pine: A bit light on scent, okay lather, overall not my favorite. Would not repeat.
    • Agarwood and spice: Way too light on scent, again would not repeat
    • Ginger and coffee: Okay on scent, but again was way too light
    • Clove and cinnamon: This was fantastic, very autumnal and peppery. Scene did not last which was a bummer but I enjoyed the bar thoroughly.
    • Eucalyptus and lime: meh, light scent and while clean and refreshing, nothing to write home about.
    • Sandalwood and mint: FIRE, if they sold this separately would go for it. A great bar, good but light scent, and the lather was excellent. Really thought the sandalwood was lovely, not too sweet and kept the muskiness that I was hoping for.
